This landscape consists of Succulents, Lavender, Carex Grass, Rock Mulch and Wood Mulch, and Boulders, with a couple of existing Washingtonia Robusta Palms = All drought Tolerant.

We renovated thier existing landscape and irrigation system. The drought tolerant landscape consists of gravel mulch, new low water use shrubs and trees, and a new Weather Based Smart Irrigation Controller.

Before

This homeowner attended our Sustainable Claremont presentation at the Claremont Colleges. She called us up  asking about designing a new landscape for her front and back yards for her home in Covina. She also wanted to know about the current rebate programs for the city of Covina. We told her there was a rebate for demolishing her existing turf, and we could plant all drought tolerant plants in it’s place.

After

She had a lawn full of weeds. We conducted 2 grow-kill cycles with Round up, and layed down weed barrier to eradicate the weeds and make sure they wouldn’t come back. After that we re-planted some existing palms and some agave plants she had to new locations in her yard. We planted all drought tolerant plant varieties, succulants, and other similar plants, with bark mulch, and decomposed granite. Her yard turned out pretty nice! She is very happy with it.

“When Forest Hill created the design for our landscaping, I was amazed at the professional presentation but even more by the variety of plants and the creativity in the design. Now that the plan has been implemented, it is even better than I had expected! I didn’t realize how often I would use the pathway  to walk among the plants to see how each one has grown and developed. The topography changes in the back, the boulder placement everywhere and the variety of base treatment works with the plants to make the yard so much more interesting and beautiful.

I have to also mention the job itself. On time and on budget! The group of guys working on the job were so friendly and nice. Everyone worked hard but always had time to smile and say Hi. The whole experience was positive. All that and water savings too! Makes me wish I had another yard to do!

Jimmys-Diner, Drought Tolerant Landscape installed by Swan Drought Tolerant Technologies. Completed August 2008

I was fortunate enough to have Swan Drought Tolerant Technologies provide their landscape services for our new restaurant complex. Swan was selected by Duran Construction and the Landscape Architect from a list of many possible landscape contractors. Swan was chosen because of their past experience working with drought tolerant plants.

After looking through a plant pallet, we decided to do a Mediterranean style drought tolerant landscape. I was very happy with the final results. I really love the Lavendula with white flowers of the Rosa Iceberg, and the Purple Shrubs that flower almost all year long. The combo of California native plants and Mediterranean plants has been a hit around here with all the customers. The landscape includes plant material that has a variety of colors and textures, combined with the proper scale that makes it all work.

By working with the landscape architect and Swan, we were able to achieve the look we wanted. I have had a good experience working with Swan on this project. I was very pleased that Forest Hill and the Swan team were able to bring the Mediterranean style landscape, together with the architectural design. I am very happy with the over all results of the landscape and would be more than happy to recommend Swan DTT for any landscape project, especially to people looking for a low maintenance and low water usage landscape.
